Members of Kupavninskaya gang in Moscow convicted of banditry, murder, robbery, illegal circulation of firearms and drugs

The court has found the evidence gathered by Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee enough to convict members of an organized criminal group Sergey Monogov, Sergey Aksyonov, Sergey Muravlyov, Pavel Sorokin, Ivan Mikhailov, Yuri Kapinosov and Alexander Patkin. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under article 209 of the RF Penal Code (banditry), article 105 (murder), article 162 (robbery), article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms) and article 228 (drug dealing).

The so called Kupavninskaya gang was created in 2007 in the village of Staraya Kupavna, Noginsky district, Moscow Region to rob the citizens transporting large sums of money and to steal their property, including by killing them. Monogov, Sorokin, Aksyonov and Muravlyov were the leaders of the gang. They picked out the objects for attacks, worked out the schemes and distributed the roles among the gang members. Gradually the gang involved other persons, who had been aware of its purposes, but still voluntarily joined the gang and later took active part in the crimes committed by it. By the way, the gang was financed by the money they stole from the citizens they attacked. It should be noted that to attack the citizens the gang members were not only in good physical shape, but had all necessary tools: arms, a lot of vehicles and means of communication.

The court and the investigators have found that in December 2009 at the trade and fair complex Moscow, the gang members attacked the personnel of the private security agency GBB and killed three money collectors, stealing over 74 million rubles. In August 2010, the accused attacked the staff of OOO Torg Sbyt (LLC), wounded one staffer and killed another one, stealing over 470 thousand rubles. In addition the gang members robbed citizens of Moscow city and Moscow Region, including in August 2012 they battered two Muscovites and stole from them 13 million rubles.

The court sentenced Monogov and Muravlyov to life in prison. Aksyonov – to 23 years, Sorokin – 14 years, Kapinosov, Mikhailov and Patkin – to 12 years in prison each. The court also upheld the civil action of the victims claiming over 74 million rubles.
