Krasnodar Territory Investigation Directorate initiates extradition of men detained in foreign states on charges of killing and complicity in killing businessmen in Sochi

The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are preparing procedural documents necessary to extradite to the Russian Federation a 40-year-old resident of the city of Sochi detained in Greece on charges of crimes under paragraphs “a”, “f”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two people committed by a group on hire and by a generally dangerous way), parts 1 and 2 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms including by an organized group) and a 41-year-old citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia detained in Latvia on charges of the crime under part 5 of article 33, paragraphs “f”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (complicity in a murder committed by a group and by a generally dangerous way).

According to investigators the 40-year-old (detained in Greece) was the leader of a criminal group and distributed the roles in it. Intending to commit a contract murder of two businessmen in the city of Sochi and receiving money from the hirer, who is being identified by the investigators, the man in the summer 2010 took measures to prepare for and commit the murder. Together with his accomplice (detained in October 2012) to kill a 31-year-old businessman he bought a motorbike, a submachine gun and ammunition. Having tracked the victim, on 26 October 2010, they drove the motorbike to café Aqua-House in Chebrikov Street in Sochi. They entered the café and shot at the businessman from the submachine gun and a pistol, although there were other people in the café, whom they could have wounded too. After the murder, they drove away on the motorbike and took measures to conceal the traces of the crime.

At the end of 2011, the accused were hired to kill another businessman. They bought two mopeds, two guns with silencers and ammunition. The leader of the group involved in the crime an acquaintance of his (detained in Latvia). On 1 March 2012 the accomplice had waited the victim near Aqua-House café and when he had come, notified the hitmen. After that the men drove to the café on the mopeds, entered the café, where there were other people and shot the businessman dead. After that both of them fled. They drove to the cemetery, left their mopeds there and left in their accomplice’s car.

After it had been established that the men had been involved in the crimes, they were put on an international list of wanted criminals, charged in absentia and the court ruled to take them in custody. Their whereabouts were found during investigating and search operations and the two men were detained. After they have been extradited in the Russian Federation, they are going to be prosecuted further on.

At present investigating operations necessary to find all the circumstances of the crimes are underway. Investigation is ongoing.
