Criminal proceeding launched against traffic police officers in Stavropol Territory on suspicion of bribery

The North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigation Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation against six employees of traffic police in the city of Kislovodsk of the Main Office of the Russian interior Ministry in the Stavropol Territory. They are suspected of crimes under paragraph “a” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery).

The criminal investigation was started based on the results of carefully planned and long operational work of the officers of the Stavropol Territory Office of the Russian Federal Security Service.

According to investigators the police officers in the period between August and December 2013, while discharging their duty of patrolling the route near the drive in the city of Kislovodsk, multiple times received bribes from motorists. As a rule the officers received bribers from drivers of cars with state registration number of other regions suspected of drunken driving. The sum of bribery for not citing the drivers for administrative violation varied from 20 to 30 thousand rubles. In all, more than 30 occasions of such criminal activity has been established.

The officers have been detained and they are participating in investigating and procedural operations. Custodial restraint is under discussion.
