In Mordovia criminal case launched in media reports of children poisoned in Saransk school

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Mordovia have launched a criminal investigation under part 1 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (services not meeting safety requirements) after several students had a food poisoning at school.

According to investigators, on 20 May 2014, a report that a teacher and 70 students had had a food poison at school in Saransk was posted in the Internet. The victims explained that after having had lunch in the cafeteria they did not feel quite well. The children, information of whom were passed to the territorial office of the Federal Citizens Welfare Supervision Service, were diagnosed with enteric infection of unclear aetiology. Considering that during the check the investigators found enough evidence indicating that the school kitchen had provided services not meeting life and health standards of consumers, the investigating bodies have decided to start a criminal investigation.

At present the investigators is carrying out investigating operations to find out all the circumstances of the incident, gather and consolidate the evidence and find a person responsible for the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
