In Ingushetia criminal investigation launched in attack on law enforcement officials

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Republic of Ingushetia have launched a criminal investigation into crimes under article 317 of the RF Penal Code (encroachment on the life of law enforcement officials) and part 2 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms).

According to investigators, on May 24, 2014, law enforcement officials during a special operation discovered supposed members of an armed group in one of the houses in the village of Sagopshi, Malgobek District, Ingushetia. When the officers offered them to surrender, they opened fire. 7 people were killed during the shootout, including 5 members of the group and a police officer and his wife, whose house the perpetrators used for a hideout.

During examination of the scene investigators of the regional office of the Investigative Committee found 3 5.45mm submachine guns, 2 Stechkin pistols, 2 PM pistols, 1 Glock pistol and ammunitions.

At present investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
