Yevgenia Vasilyeva finishes reading files of Oboronzervis case

Today former head of the Department for Property Relationships of the Russian Defense Ministry Yevgenia Vasilyeva in her lawyers’ presence signed a protocol confirming that she had read the files of the criminal case. During the process she had filed 28 different motions, including one requesting to extend the time for reading files for another 5 months and two more claiming her complete innocence and that the case against her should be closed.

It should be noted that all the period after the investigating operations had been finished, Vasilyeva and her lawyers delayed the process of reading the files. And only due to a motion filed with court of law by the Russia’s Investigative Committee, the decision to limit the reading time was made.

We have information that today Vasilyeva’s lawyers are going to hold a press conference in one of news agencies, where they most likely will continue to tell about their client’s works of art. But this time they are going to present not paintings or poems, but a collection of fiction stories connected with the criminal case. It is easy to guess that their main subject will be Yevgenia Vasilyeva’s hard life. Some fragments of those stories have already been voiced in different forms, starting with media and ending with passionate statements of the lawyers and their client in court accusing investigators of all kinds of sins (by the way, she had filed over 20 such complaints, all of which the court left unattended).

So I have to disappoint journalists as they won’t see anything new at that press conference. The event itself can be seen as the last attempt to influence the coming and unavoidable trial.

In our turn, we using no artistic fantasy, but bare facts, would like to recall “glorious road” of Yevgenia Vasilyeva as head of the Department for Property Relationships of the Russian Defense Ministry Yevgenia Vasilyeva, which has become somewhat blurred by her unexpectedly discovered artistic talent. So according to the files of the criminal case she is charged with 12 counts of criminal activity with overall damage over 3 billion rubles. She is charged with crimes under articles 159, 174.1, 201, 286 of the RF Penal Code (fraud; money laundering; exceeding of authority). Investigators believe that Vasiliyeva used her official position to choose the most liquid shares, properties and other assets owned by Oboronservis and after that organized their selling at underrated prices. Vasilyeva managed the stolen assets in person via companies she controlled. In addition, there are evidence that Vasilyeva received millions rubles in cash from her trustees in charge of money laundering.

All that was committed by an organized group composed of Irina Yegorova, Larisa Yegorina, Yuri Grekhnev, Maxim Zakutailo, Dinara Bilyalova and Yekaterina Smetanova.

Unlike Vasilyeva, some of them pleaded guilty and concluded a pretrial cooperation deal. The first person under investigation in this case has been sentenced in April.

During the search in Vasilyeva’s residents the investigators had found and confiscated: a collection of paintings, 3.5 million rubles in cash, over a thousand of pieces of jewelry of precious stones and metals, watches of famous world brands worth overall 127 million rubles.

Properties, jewels and antiquities of all the accused were arrested. This way, Vasilyeva’s alone real assets arrested included 6 real estates in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, a 25 million rubles bank account, accounts of her companies with overall over 300 million rubles on them.

Those are the facts, not collections of poetry, fiction stories or any other Vasilyeva’s tricks, which court of law will be looking at on one of these days.
