In Buryatia pre-investigating check launched in flood of holiday village affecting 6

On 28 June 2014, due to heavy rains and mudflows from the Sayan Mountains, the water level in the Kyngyrga river rose sharply flooding the holiday village of Arshan in Tunkinsky District, Buryatia. At least six people were affected by the flood. The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Republic of Buryatia have organized a pre-investigating check into actions of the officials in charge of timely forecast of natural disasters, notification of people and organization of evacuation.

According to preliminary reports, over 100 homes, different social facilities, educational institutions for children and sanatoriums were caught in the flood area. In addition, two bridges were damaged by mudflows. The state of emergency was declared in the region. Six injured were taken to hospital with different injuries, two of them are minors. A woman is missing. Besides, the specialists are searching for a team of eight children and seven adults, who went hiking in the mountains the day before and failed to contact.

At present a number of investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. During the probe investigators are going to classify actions of the officials. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
