In Tver Region police officers charged with bribetaking

Based on the files provided by the Tver Region Office of the Federal Security Service the investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Tver Region have launched a criminal investigation against Nikolai Ocheretov, the deputy chief of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the Tver Region Office of the Russian Interior Ministry, Sergey Lakotsenin, operational work chief of police of Tver Office of the Interior Ministry, Yevgeny Pavlov, former officer of the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the Konakovo District Office of the Interior Ministry charged with crimes under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (receiving a bribe). Besides, Shakhin Iskandarov, a local resident is being prosecuted for a crime under part 4 of article 291.1 of the RF Penal Code (giving a bribe to an officer).

According to investigators, between 2012 and August 2013, the said officers regularly received fees for patronizing illegal gambling business in the Tver Region. In all, they received about 8 million rubles through intermediate Shakhin Iskandarov. Namely, they got money for informing Iskandarov on the coming checks in gambling clubs, for formal break of their activity confiscating minimum of equipment. The accused patronized 50 gambling clubs, most of which were based in the city of Tver.

A court ruled to place Ocheretov, Lakotsenin and Iskandarov in custody pending the trial. Pavlov was released on recognizance.

At present a set of investigating operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
