In Yekaterinburg members of criminal group to stand trial for misappropriation of ownership

The Ural Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigating a criminal case against Vyacheslav Ivanov, Abdul-Vakhab Sidorov, Valerie Valua, Nikolai Mokhnachev and Zhakhongir Irmukhamedov. They are charged with a crime under part 3 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud, that is acquisition of ownership on another’s property by deceit committed by a group of people in a conspiracy on a large scale – 2 counts).

According to investigators, in the period between September and October 2004, the said criminal group, including 2 former officers of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, was involved in scams, namely illegally obtained ownership on flats owned by Yekaterinburg municipality. The crimes were committed under the same scheme using forged privatization agreements, passports and other documents necessary to register ownership. The members of the group stole two flats owned by the municipality. This way the culprits deprived citizens in need of better housing conditions the possibility to move into comfortable flats.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
