In Moscow Region local resident charged with murder of missing woman

The Moscow Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have charged a 26-year-old local resident with the murder of a missing woman from the town of Sergiyev Posad, Liliya Garanina (part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code).

It has earlier been reported that on 30 January 2014, at 8 in the evening the woman left her mother’s flat and nobody saw her since. On 1 February 2014, a burnt Toyota Raw-4 the woman was driving at the day she went missing was found about 1 km from the village of Loza, Sergiyev Posad District. On 27 March 2014, at 7 in the evening, the woman’s dead body with a gunshot wound to the head was found about 5 km from the village of Brevnovo, Sergiyev Posad District.

During the probe, the investigators found that the woman had assisted citizens with purchasing lands and handling other matters connected with real estate. When they were checking the theory that the woman might have been killed because of her professional activity, they tracked down an acquaintance of his engaged in the same business. Later the man confessed to the murder and surrendered to the police.

On the request, filed by the investigators, a court ruled to remand the man in custody pending the trial. A number of investigative operations are underway to consolidate the evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
