In Voronezh Region local resident convicted of kidnapping child and series of sex crimes

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Voronezh Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 34-year-old resident of Bobrov District Alexander Kuvaldin, who was found guilty of crimes under paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 131 of the RF Penal Code (rape), paragraph “d” of part 2 of article 161 (robbery), part 2 of article 162 (robbery), paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 126 (kidnapping of an underage person), part 1 of article 139 (trespassing).

The court and investigators have found that Kuvaldin, who had been previously convicted for robberies and rapes, committed a series of serious crimes in 2013.

On 14 February 2013, the defendant met a woman in a gardening society in Levoberezhny district of Voronezh and raped her threatening with a knife. On the same day he robbed another woman and stole her purse.

On 24 February 2013, in the village of Kolodezny, Kashira District Kuvaldin introduced himself as a gas service worker and got into the house of a 72-year-old woman. Having made sure that the woman was home alone he said that she had been late with the gas bill, which had to be paid right away and offered to take her to a bank. The deceived woman took a necessary sum and got into the man’s car. The defendant took the woman several kilometers away from the village, beat her and threatening with a knife took her purse with 2.5 thousand rubles in it.

On 25 February 2013, around 5 PM, in the village of Pochepskoye, Liski District Kuvaldin deceived a 10-year-old girl, got her into his VAZ-2108 car and took in an unknown direction. Local residents chased him. Trying to get away he drove to neighboring Bobrov District and there, on the outskirts of the town, he abandoned his car and fled. During the chase the girl managed to get away from the kidnapper.

Being wanted for kidnapping a child, on 27 February 2013, Kuvaldin raped an 80-year-old woman in Verkhnayaya Khaba District.

On 28 February 2013, trying to hide from police officers the defendant broke into a house while the owners were away.

The court has sentenced Kuvaldin to 12 years to be served in a maximum-security colony and a fine of 50 thousand rubles.
