In Astrakhan Region criminal investigation launched in grievous bodily harm to 8-year-old child due to criminal negligence

Based on the results of review of application filed by a woman to Internet reception of the Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee which stated that her child had been mistakenly diagnosed and he was not provided with necessary medications, the Astrakhan Region Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into a crime under part 2 of article 118 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of grievous bodily harm by negligence due to improper discharge of professional duties).

According to investigators, the boy, who had been treated at a hospital, on 24 January 2014, got a catheter for feeding. After that his condition worsened considerably putting his life in danger.

A comprehensive test has been assigned to check if the diagnosis and treatment were right. Considering that it is a very hard and unique analyses, it was ordered to an expert facility in Moscow.

Considering the child’s condition and hard financial situation of his family, on the initiative of the investigations directorate, leading specialists in the field of genetics and neurology of the Research Center of Children’s Health of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences have carried out a medical consultation and material assistance has been provided by money donated by officials of the investigations directorate.

The investigators are going to look at reasons and circumstances in which subquality medical services and improper medication had been provided.

The investigation is kept under special control by the head of the investigations directorate.
