In Moscow Region charges pressed against mother of one-year-old girl who died of dog bites

The Moscow Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have charged the mother of a one-year-old girl, whose dead body was found in a house, with reckless homicide (part 1 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code).

It was reported earlier that at night of 15 November 2014, the girl’s body was found in a house in a non-commercial gardening society in the village of Mansurovo, Moscow Region. According to preliminary information, a family from Moscow had come to their holiday house. The girl’s mother had put the baby to sleep in a stroller and left it on the first floor. The women had gone upstairs to have a nap. At night, when the woman had gone downstairs to check on the baby, she had found her on the floor with no signs of life.

During the examination of the scene, investigators found scratches and bite marks on the girl’s body. The investigators believe that the girl might have been bitten by dogs, as there are about 11 dogs and 3 cats living in the premises. There were dog cages on the first floor of the house, where the woman had left the stroller with the baby.

According to a forensic medical inquiry the girl died of multiple dog bites and bruises followed by a traumatic wound shock. By now the girl’s mother has been questioned. She has been released on recognizance. The investigation is ongoing.
