In Moscow criminal investigation launched in death of Russian tourist in Egyptian Hurghada

The investigating bodies of Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into a crime under article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder) following the death of a 39-year-old Russian tourist in a hospital in the resort city of Hurghada, Egypt.

According to preliminary information, on 8 November 2014, there was conflict between the victim and another Russian tourist in one of the hotels in Hurghada, which quickly turned into a fight. The man was injured during the fight and taken to a local hospital. Bothe Egyptian and Russian doctors treated the victim. His relatives paid part of the sum needed to keep him in hospital. However, the insurance company refused to pay for the treatment and did not qualify it an insured accident. Due to a failure to pay medical personnel disconnected the patient from life support systems.

During the probe the investigators are going to assess actions of medical personnel regarding improper medical treatment, actions of the travel agency staff, and the staff of the insurance company, who refused to pay for treatment at the hospital in Hurghada.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigators are questioning witnesses of the fight and the man suspected of inflicting grievous bodily harm to the victim. He is testifying about the details of the incident.
