In Yekaterinburg former chief of military unit and businessman to stand trial for stealing military property worth 110 million rubles

The Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Central Military District has finished a preliminary investigation against former chief of military unit 20421 1st rank captain in the reserve Mikhail Press and manager of ZAO Holding Spetskomplektresurs (close corporation) Pyotr Matveyev. They are charged with crimes under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud committed by an organized group on a very large scale) and part 1 of article 327 (forgery of an official document).

It has been revealed that in the period between March 2011 and October 2012, Press and Matveyev used forged documents to organize illegal transportation of and selling technical property designed for repairing ships, as well as some metal-roll and undivided metal scrap worth in total 110 million rubles.

In order to reimburse the damage caused to the state, the property bought by Press in 2011-2012 worth over 14 million rubles was arrested during a preliminary investigation. The arrested property includes a 3-room flat in the city of Yekaterinburg about 130 square meters in area, a 2-floor holiday house, a boat Weekend 330, a Mitsubishi Pajero car, as well as expensive jewelries confiscated during a search, 3 Vertu phones, 440 thousand rubles and 14.5 thousand US dollars in cash.

A representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense has informed that there is a recovery action planned to be filed.

After the indictment has been approved, the criminal case has been sent to Yekaterinburg garrison military court to be tried on the merits.
