At the request of investigators a court has ruled to place Director of Construction Department of Primorye Territory Andrey Poplavsky in custody pending trial. The hearing was held in the neurological department of clinical territory hospital No 1, where the accused is treated in a general care ward.

It was reported earlier that the Primorye Territory Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee suspected Director of Construction Department of Primorye Territory Andrey Poplavsky of a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud). The case was opened following a procedure check based on the files of the Primorye Territory Office of the Federal Security Service.

According to investigators, Poplavsky stole over 40 million rubles allocated to build Primorye Aquarium by overstating the amount of work done. The investigators have searched his residence and confiscated collections of orders and expensive watches. Measures have been taken to reimburse the damage.

The investigation is ongoing. The investigators are gathering evidence to press the charges and are searching for other counts.
