In Trans-Baikal Territory criminal case opened over dead body of teenager found after fire in sports base

On 18 December 2014, there was a fire in the sports base Vysokogorye in the town of Chita. When firefighters were putting it out they found the dead body of a teenager. The Trans-Baikal Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in negligence of unidentified officials leading to the death of a person (part 2 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code).

Investigators have carried out a number of investigative operations on the scene. They examined the scene, the body was examined by a forensic expert and necessary forensic inquiries have been assigned. People who were present when the fire had started were questioned. Documents for sports equipment were requested and officials in charge of safety are being identified. The killed teenager was identified as a 14-year-old resident of one of districts of Trans-Baikal Territory, who had arrived at the base with a sports team to take part in skiing competitions.

Today the investigators are going to continue investigative operations at the scene. The scene is being additionally examined with participation of criminalists and specialists of the Trans-Baikal Territory Office of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and using forensic equipment.

Soon the investigators are going to identify the officials responsible for ensuring safety of teenagers staying at the sports base. Their actions will be given tough and unbiased assessment.
