In Moscow Region man suspected of taking child hostage in Nakhabino arrested

Following the request of an investigator of Moscow Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, a court ruled to place Rustam Odilov suspected of taking a 9-year-old girl hostage (paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 206 of the RF Penal Code) in custody pending trial.

It has been earlier reported that on 22 December 2014, at around 5 PM, Odilov armed with an air gun rang a doorbell in a flat in the village of Nakhabino, Moscow Region and introduced himself as a mailman. An elderly woman opened the door and let him in. The man started asking the woman if she had a son, showed her a picture of a man she did not know. Having received a negative answer he demanded to give him money. After that he started drinking alcohol he had brought with him. Choosing a moment when the man went to other room, the woman tried to leave the flat with her granddaughter, however, the man grabbed the girl and pushed the woman to the stairwell. She called the police at once.

The suspect was detained during a special operation of officers of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, Office of the Federal Security Service and Main Office of the Ministry of Interior for Moscow and Moscow Region. At first he tried to kill himself, but then fought back and was wounded in leg. The girl was no hurt.

During the questioning Odilov told that he had committed the crime with the purpose of robbery and the photo of a man on the tablet computer was a story he had made up to involve the woman in the talk and get in the flat. He admitted his guilt and repented.

Charges will be pressed soon. A number of investigating operations are underway to collect and consolidate the evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
