Dagestan investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in crimes under article 317 of the RF Penal Code (attempt on the life of law enforcement officials) and part 2 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms).

According to investigators on 6 January 2015, around 08:15 PM, in the village of Oktyabrskoye, Khasavyurt District, unidentified individuals shot at officers of police patrol and post service of Khasavyurt District Department of the Ministry of the Interior, who had arrived in the village to check the report received from an identified local resident that there had been a dead body found. Two police officers died of gunshot wounds in hospital. After the crime the assailants fled in a Lada Kalina.

During the search and investigating operations, the police found a car on a road near the village of Kemsiyurt, Khasavyurt District. When the police officers tried to detain the driver, he fought back and shot at them. The police shot back and killed the man. It was a resident of the village of Novogagatli, Khasavyurt District Magomed Gamzatov born in 1984.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime and investigators are checking if the killed man was involved in other serous and very serious crimes.

The investigation is ongoing.
