In Moscow police officer and his accomplice detained for corruption

The investigating bodies of Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation against an operative of the 3rd department of the 1st Operative Search Office of the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the Office of the Ministry of the Interior for the Eastern Administrative District of Moscow Maxim Maltsev and his accomplice Abdula Isayev suspected of a crime under part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (attempted fraud by a group of people).

Investigators have revealed that on 20 March 2015, Maltsev who was providing support in the case investigated by the police department for the Eastern Administrative District of Moscow demanded from the arrestee’s relatives 3 million rubles for changing his restraint to non-custodial one. However, he was not able to do that. The arrestee’s mother reported to law-enforcement bodies. Both men were apprehended by investigators while passing the money to Maltsev’s intermediary.

Today the investigators are going to request court to place both Maltsev and Isayev in custody pending trial.

Unfortunately, this is not the only crime committed by police officers in Moscow. In 2014 alone Moscow Main Investigations Directorate charged 180 police officers with 230 acts of corruption.

We are going to eradicate corruption in law enforcement bodies independent of positions and ranks and are not going to make any exceptions for our own divisions.
