In Volgograd former high-ranking official of Federal Bailiffs Service get 7 years in jail and multi-million fine for attempted bribery

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Volgograd Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former Deputy Director of Volgograd Region Office of the Federal Bailiffs Service – Deputy Chief Bailiff for Volgograd Region Andrey Pochekhovsky. He was found guilty of a crime under part 3 of article 30, paragraph “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (attempted bribery on a large scale through an intermediary).

The court and investigators have revealed that in June 2014, Dzerzhinsky district bailiffs department opened an enforcement proceeding to exact from a company for benefit of another company over 6.5 million rubles. A representative of the first company asked a friend of his, a senior bailiff of a special department of Volgograd Region commercial court, to assist him to exact the money as soon as possible. The man agreed alluding to his good relations with the senior officials and later passed the request to Pochekhovsky, who decided to take advantage of the situation and demanded 200 thousand rubles for assistance. The money should have been passed via another subordinate, deputy senior bailiff of inter-district special proceeding department of the Volgograd Region Bailiffs Office. The middleman was detained while receiving the cash.

The criminal activity of the bribe-taker was broken by operatives of the regional office of the Federal Security Service and Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Operations Department of the Volgograd Region Ministry of the Interior.

The court has sentenced the accused to 7 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony, a fine of 12 million rubles and banned him from occupying any positions in state authorities for 3 years.
