Investigative Committee Chairman holds briefing in Khakassia

Today Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has arrived in Khakassia to coordinate the work of investigating teams on site. The teams are investigating death of people and mass destruction of houses due to wildfires. Mr. Bastrykin held a meeting in Abakan attended by officials of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, senior officials of the Investigations Directorate for Khakassia and the investigating team, regional offices of the Ministry of the Interior, Federal Security Service, Emergencies Ministry and prosecutor of Khakassia.

The Chairman heard the reports on initial investigative operations and decided to join them in a single proceeding and hand it over to the Main Investigations Directorate for further investigation. Officials of investigations directorates for Krasnoyarsk Territory, Tuva Republic, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk Regions and criminalists of the Main Investigations Directorate were sent to help the investigators to finish the preliminary probe as soon as possible.

At present the investigative group continues examining the fire scenes and investigating witnesses and victims. At present the investigators know about 23 deaths. After all the circumstances have been cleared, the investigators will qualify actions of omission of individuals in charge of fire safety in settlements.
