In Trans-Baikal Territory six cases opened over negligence that led to destruction of houses by wildfires

Trans-Baikal Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened six criminal cases over mass destruction of houses by wildfires. In five districts of the region investigations were launched in a crime under part 1 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence entailing large damage). In Shilka District where two people died in wildfires opened an investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence entailing death of two or more people).

According to investigators, from the middle of March to April 2015, over 300 buildings were destroyed and over 20 people sought medical aid due to wildfires in Trans-Baikal Territory. In Shilka District while putting out a fire in a house firefighters found two dead bodies in the basement. In Chita District a 3-year-old girl died in an accident during the evacuation from a burning dacha cooperative. In Nerchinsk District two girls aged 5 and 6 suffered severe burns. The information on other victims is being checked.

At present investigating teams are working on sites. They are examining the fire scenes, look into the circumstances of deaths and are going to question all the victims. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigations are ongoing.
