Charges pressed against former deputy chairman and minister of Sakhalin Region Government

The Russia’s Investigative Committee has pressed charges against former deputy chairman of the Sakhalin Region Government who was in charge of in charge of fishing industry and agricultural sector Sergey Karepkin and former minister of agriculture, trade and rations of Sakhalin Region Nikolay Borisov. Karepkin is charged with a crime under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery on a very large scale), Borisov – with part 4 of article 291.1 (mediation in bribery on a very large scale).

According to investigators the officials took a bribe of at least 15 million rubles for actions connected with allocating subsidies to support farmers.

Earlier following a request of investigators, a court ruled to remand Karepkin and Borisov in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
