Investigation opened against inspector of Federal Fishing Agency who checked Dalny Vostok trawler before it sank

The Russia’s Investigative Committee continues looking into circumstances of the Dalny Vostok trawler wreck that happened on 2 April 2015. The Far Eastern Transportation Investigations Directorate has launched an investigation against a state inspector of marine department of the Federal Fishing Agency Alexander Nikodimenko. He is charged with crimes under part 3 of article 290 and part 3 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (taking a bribe and abuse of authority).

According to investigators, Nikodimenko took a bribe of 500 US dollars during an inspection of the Dalny Vostok on 28 March 2015. Restraint measure is expected.

The crime was revealed during an investigation against head of marine navigation safety, certification and fishing vessels monitoring of Sakhalinrybvod Nikolai Kharchenko opened in a crime under part 3 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence) after he had let the trawler to sea without documents regulating actions of the crew to prevent emergency situations and organization of rescue operations in case of an accident. He was charged and released in recognizance.

The investigation is ongoing.
