Progress of investigation against head of Petersburg Metro

The second investigations department of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee based in the city of Saint-Petersburg continues investigating a criminal case against Head of Petersburg Metro Vladimir Garyugin suspected of a crime under part 2 of article 201 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of power). The criminal case was opened based on the files provided by Saint-Petersburg Chamber of Control and Accounts.

According to investigators, in 2012, Head of Petersburg Metro Vladimir Garyugin and other employees used their authority against legal interests of the institution but to gain profit and advantages for other individuals when signing an investment agreement on building of a commercial facility – a complex of land hall of Admiralteyskaya metro station. As a result the budget of Saint-Petersburg suffered damage of at least 466 million rubles and harm was done to legally protected state interests.

The investigators have done their best to make it possible for the damage to be reimbursed. Garyugin’s money, over 31 million rubles, large sums of money in foreign currency and 3 pieces of land located in different districts of Leningrad Region, his house, Toyota Land Cruiser and 3 savings certificates worth 2.4 million rubles have been arrested.

Due to the information that one of senior officials of Petersburg Metro might have been involved in another crime, the offices of Petersburg Metro are being searched again involving an expert in order to find some evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
