Ex-mayor of Makhachkala Said Amirov and seven of his accomplices jailed

Court has recognized the evidence gathered by Major Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former Mayour of Makhachkala Sail Amirov, Yuzup Dzhaparov, three brothers Akmedov, Murad Aliyev, Magomed Kadiyev and Zubair Mutayev. Depending on the role of each one, they were found guilty of crimes under part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “b”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (attempted murder), article 295 (attempt on the life of a person exercising justice or carrying out initial investigation), part 2 of article 208 (membership in an illegal armed group), part 2 ofarticle 209 (banditry), paragraphs “a” and “c” of part 2 of article 205 (terrorist attack) and part 3 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms).

The court and investigators revealed that the said persons were involved in an attempt on the life of acting head of a territorial investigating body of the Dagestan Investigations Directorate Arsen Gadzhibekov. The reason to kill the investigator was the fact that he was investigating official malfeasances of officials of Makhachkala administration headed by Amirov. The ex-mayor ordered the killing to a gang headed at the time by Assistant Prosecutor of the town of Kizlyar Magomed Abdulgalimov. Looking into the circumstances and motives of the audacious crime, the investigators understood that it was committed by a gang and Amirov ordered it.

Besides, the defendants were involved in plotting a terrorist attack in Moskva shopping mall in the town of Kaspiysk. Then the building was damaged and only by a lucky chance nobody was hurt. But audacity and cruelty with which Amirov and his accomplices eliminated and intimidated their competitors and people out of their favor demonstrate that they were absolutely sure that they would get away with that. Even when detained by investigators Amirov at first couldn’t believe that somebody could dare to touch him.

The court sentenced Said Amirov to life in prison, Yusup Dzhaparov – to 18 years in prison, Magomed Akhmedov to 22 years in prison, Shamsutdin Akhmedov to 10 years in prison, Abdulmazhid Akhmedov to 10 years in prison, Murad Aliyev to 12 years in prison, Magomed Kadiyev to 13 years in prison and Zubair Mutayev to 11 years in prison.

Earlier the North Caucasus District Military Court found Amirov and Dzhaparov guity of plotting a terrorist attack by shooting a portable air defense missile system “Strela -2M” at a passenger plane and gave them 10 and 8.5 years in prison respectively.
