Probe launched against deputy of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened an investigation against deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, out-of-staff advisor of the Minister of the Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior Anton Gerashchenko. He is suspected of a crime under article 205.2 of the RF Penal Code “Public appeals to terrorism and public justification of terrorism”.

According to investigators, Gerashchenko published on his page in a social network a post publicly urging the users to reveal information on Russian militaries who are taking part in the operation in Syria. Basically Gerashchenko supported and spread out the idea of his interlocutor in the social net that this way “terrorists and their fellows in Russia will be able to revenge Russian militaries in accordance with shariah”.

By expressing such an idea, Gerashchenko deliberately challenged countries fighting terrorism. Almost in any state such words said by a politician would have meant the end of his political career. But in Ukraine, apparently, it’s vice versa - such appeals help to gain more trust, but not from the people, but from the ruling elite. There are no doubts, where the career of this character will end.
