Probe launched in death of seven children in fire in Krasnodar Territory

On 9 October 2015, the police got a report that there had been a fire in a single-family house in Gogol street in the village of Kholmskaya, Abinsk District, Krasnodar Territory. Seven children aged between a year and 10 were killed in the fire. The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two or more people).

According to investigators, a family of two adults and 5 small children lived in the house. On 8 October 2015, their friends with their children came to their house. About 11 PM, witnesses who saw the fire called firefighters and ambulance. The relative of the family started to take out the children from the burning house and got burns. However, the children could not be rescued.

According to preliminary information the cause of the children’s death was carbon monoxide inhalation.

The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.

There had been no adults in the house, when the fire started.

At the present time, necessary inquiries have been assigned to find out the cause for the fire and the death of the children. The investigation is ongoing.
