Man charged with bear cruelty in Sakhalin Region

The Sakhalin Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigation against 32-year-old resident of the village of Kitovoe, Kurilsk District Denis Streltsov. He is charged with a crime under part 1 of article 245 of the RF Penal Code (animal cruelty, entailing its injury, committed out of hooliganism).

According to investigators, on 14 August 2015, at about 11 PM, the accused and his friends were near the village of Reydovo, Kurilsk District, Sakhalin Region riding a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV vehicle. On their way they met a bear. Aware that the animal was not threatening to them as they were in the vehicle, the accused motivated by hooliganism ran over the bear on the vehicle over 2,100 kg. To demonstrate his strength over the beast and his disdain towards it he ran over the bear by the front right wheel of the vehicle. He did not stop, running the bear over 5 times by front and back wheels.

As a result of Streltsov’s criminal actions the bear suffered open wounds on the muzzle, cuts and wounds to the chest.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case has been sent for the indictment to be approved and them to be sent to court to be tried on the merits.
