Parents charged in case over death of 7 children in fire in Krasnodar Territory

The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigation in the death of seven children aged between 1 and 10 in a fire of a single-family house in the village of Kholmskaya, Abinsk District on 8 October 2015. The children’s parents are charged with a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two or more people).

It was reported earlier that on 8 October 2015, witnesses saw that the house where 7 children were, was on fire and called firefighters and an ambulance. However, despite all the measures taken, the children died.

According to investigators, the adults had not been at home for three hours while the children were at home alone. It is revealed, that in the said evening the children’s parents had bought alcohol in one of shops. The investigators know the exact time when they bought the alcohol and the name of it. Empty bottles were confiscated from the family’s car. The parents came back home, only because they felt cold as the temperature on that day fell to 0 degrees.

No outdoor sources of fire were found during the examination of the fire site. It is revealed that the source of the fire was inside the house. According to investigators, the house was heated by a stove working on wood and located in the room that was burned worse.

At present restraint is under consideration. Investigative operations are underway, a number of forensic inquiries have been assigned. The investigation is ongoing.
