Father of 18-month-old child hospitalized with narcoma arrested in Volgograd

The Volgograd Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigation against a 29-year-old man, who caused an 18-month-year child suffer grave drug poisoning and was taken to hospital in a coma on 10 October 2015. The criminal case was opened in a crime under paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 111 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm to a child).

The residence of the child was immediately searched by investigators who found there two packages with unknown substance. On the initiative of the regional investigative committee the powder was tested and appeared to be synthetic drug called spice. At present, there is an ongoing investigation against the 29-year-old father of the boy who at once confessed that he had bought the drug a couple of days ago for personal use, over a crime under article 228 of the RF Penal Code (illegal drug dealing).

According to investigators, on 9 October 2015, the boy found a pack of the drug at home and ate it suffering grave poisoning. He felt unwell almost at once, however, his parents seeing that still did not call the doctor. They called an ambulance the next day, when the boy’s condition became critical.

Today’s morning a court satisfied the request of investigators and ruled to remand the man in custody pending trial. Further investigative operations are underway to gather evidence. It has been revealed, that the family has never been on the list of socially unsound families or registered in any specialized bodies before. At present the boy is still monitored by doctors, who assess his condition as satisfactory. The child’s life and health are out of danger.

The investigators are also going to classify the actions of the boy’s mother, who had failed to take measures so that her son could have received qualified medical aid.
