In Ingushetia, probe launched into death of child due to medical malpractice

The Ingushetia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into medical malpractice which entailed death of a 5-year-old girl by negligence (Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, on 9 August 2016, at about 5 PM, relatives delivered a 5-year-old girl with fever and rash to the specialized emergency room of the Ingush Republic Clinical Hospital. Doctors examined the child, but tailed to assess the gravity of her condition, to provide qualified emergency aid or to take necessary tests, so they did not prescribe necessary treatment. Instead, the girl accompanied by a nurse and her mother was sent to the infectious diseases department and placed in a ward there. An infection disease doctor also failed to provide qualified medical aid, so the girl stayed without attention from the doctor for a long time and no tests were taken. Delayed measures taken by the infection disease doctor gave no results. The girl got worse at night and she died at the intensive care department on the morning of 10 August 2016.

Investigators are going to find out doctors of which department were negligent and led to death of the 5-year-old girl. A medical forensic inquiry has been assigned to see the exact cause of death. Relevant documents have been confiscated from the hospital. Questionings are underway to find out all the detail of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
