In Perm Territory, latest forensic equipment identifies child predator who committed crimes since 2008

The Perm Territory Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation opened after two girls were sexually abused (Part 4, item “b” of Article 132 of the RF Penal Code) on 11 October 2016 in Sverdlovsky District of Perm.

An investigative team was set up immediately and consisted of the most experienced investigators and criminalists of the regional investigative authority. The latest forensic equipment was used to find biological traces. A DNA test showed that the perpetrator’s DNA matched that of another man who committed sex crimes against other two girls in 2008 and 2014. The victims gave the description of the perpetrator.

The criminalists used a hidden camera detector to examine the area surrounding the crime scene. They found all surveillance cameras in the area and confiscated records. When the criminalists watched the footage they saw a man walking in the direction of the crime scene on the time of crime and matching the description given by victims. The picture of the presumed perpetrator was sent to all police precincts. Volunteer organizations, citizens and mass media joined the manhunt. On 15 October 2016, it was reported that a 54-year-old man from the town of Chusovoy might have been involved in the said crimes. The suspect was detained the same day. A DNA test showed that the man’s DNA matched to that of the perpetrator who had committed crimes against 4 girls. The investigators searched the man’s house and found a video camera with the footage of his crimes and a gas pistol and a knife-bayonet he possessed illegally.

By now the man has been charged with the crime committed on 11 October 2016, and has been put in custody, pending trial. The charges of the 2008 and 2014 crimes will be brought soon.
