Investigation finished against serial maniac terrorizing women in Volgograd

The Volgograd Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation against a 41-year-old local resident. In all, he is charged with 6 counts of crimes under Part 2, item “b” of Article 132 (sexual abuse with threats of murder), three counts of crimes under Part 3, item “a” of Article 132 of the RF Penal Code (sexual abuse with threats of murder committed against minors).

According to investigators, from December 2015 to April 2016, an unidentified man attacked women in apartment buildings and raped them threatening them with a knife or a screw driver. There are 9 victims abed between 16 and 27 living in Dzerzhinsky, Sovetsky, Traktorozavodsky, Krasnooktyabrsky Districts of the city.

Judging by the description of the rapist, investigators presumed that all the assaults were committed by the same man, so they checked ex-cons. A 41-year-old resident of Volgograd who had served 12 years for rapes and robberies committed in 2004 and 2005 and who had been released in September 2015 became one of the suspects. On 19 April 2016, the man was detained in a flat he rented in Dzerzhinsky District. All the victims recognized their rapist in the man.

During the probe the investigators have questioned more than 200 people and run over 30 forensic inquiries. Additionally, biological traces were found on one of the crime scenes, in which experts found male DNA which then matched that of the accused. There are 20 case files.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case has been forwarded for the indictment to be signed and will then be referred to court.
