Investigative Committee looking into attacks on paramedics in Yaroslavl Region and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area

Attacks on medical workers have recently become more frequent with wider geography. In 2017 alone, doctors were assailed in Vladimir, Moscow, Saratov Regions, Saint Petersburg and Kamchatka Territory.

Media have today reported about another two attacks on EMTs in Yaroslavl Region and in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area.

Following an order of the management of the Investigative Committee, the Yaroslavl Region Office has opened an investigation in battery under Article 116 of the RF Penal Code after media reported about an attack on a paramedic.

According to preliminary data, on the morning of 12 February 2017, a young man under influence and with traces of battery came into a shop in Gogol Street in Yaroslavl. Witnesses called an ambulance. When paramedics tried to help the young man, he became aggressive and hit a female paramedic.

In addition, also following an order of the Investigative Committee’s management the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra Office has launched a check into beating of a female paramedic who arrived to attend an emergency call in the town of Surgut.

Almost daily audacious attacks on doctors show that the public unfortunately forgets the importance of the profession, which has been one of the most humane and respected since ancient times. Medical workers who save our lives begin now to afraid for their own. The investigative Committee considers it as impeding their activities. We are intended to use all powers given to us by the law to protect rights of those who help people no matter what.
