In Komi Republic, check launched in traffic accident involving minibus carrying young sports team

On 13 February 2017, three vehicles collided in Ust-Vymsky District, Komi Republic on the motorway between Syktyvkar and Ukhta. Six teenagers aged between 12 and 16 transported by one of the vehicles, a minibus, were injured in the accident.

According to preliminary data, an adult who accompanied the children had decided not to wait for a coach to come and get to the place by taxi, which then got into the accident. The Komi Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has launched a check into the accident to find out the reasons for and circumstances surrounding it. Investigators are going to give legal assessment to the actions of not only the taxi driver, but of persons who had organized the sports competition and transportation of the children. Their actions will be checked on the signs of provision of unsafe services under Article 238 of the RF Penal Code. A procedural decision will be made following the check.

The investigative Committee pays special attention to protecting rights of children. Unfortunately, such accidents are not rare. Lives and health of children depend completely on organizers of competitions, this is shy in each of such cases investigators check carefully all circumstances surrounding the incident and look into contributing factors.
