In Sverdlovsk Region, teacher to stand trial for criminal negligence entailing death of child

The Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against a 38-year-old teacher of a school in the settlement of Lobva, Novaya Lyalya District, charged with negligence which has entailed death of a person under Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on the afternoon of 27 June 2016, being the head of the 2nd session in a summer camp at school, the accused let children go home earlier and failed to notify their parents about that. One of the children, a 6-year-old boy, who was to go to school in September, went swimming in the Lyampa river. As was established, being unattended by either legal guardians or responsible officials, and not being a well swimmer the boy drowned in the river. His clothes and toy he carried that day were found on the bank of the river during the examination of the scene. The boy’s body was found not far from the place where he went into water.

The investigators did a lot of work to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident, to collect and document the evidence. As a result they established that it was the said teacher who was involved in the crime.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.

In addition to finding out all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, the investigators also paid attention to looking into all the reasons for and contributing factors of the incident. They filed a request with the school administration to eliminate the violations and prevent them in future.
