In Voronezh, five cases opened against director of building management company over injuring local residents by ice falling from roofs

In January-February 2017, the police got a report that six local residents aged between 24 and 57 years were injured by ice that fell from the roofs of blocks of flats in Koltsovskaya, Moiseyev, 9 January and 20 years of October streets in Leninsky District of Voronezh. All of them were taken to hospitals with different injuries.

Checks were run and found that the Building Management Company of Leninsky District represented by its director was responsible for maintaining the blocks of flats, including revealing mounds of snow and ice of the roofs and clearing them. As the snow clearing and services provided by the director did not meet safety standards, the ice and snow fell and injured people.

The Voronezh Region Office of the Investigative Committee have opened five cases over unsafe services under Part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code against the director of the building management company. The cases have been joined to form a single lawsuit with the one opened before over unsafe services that entailed grievous bodily harm under Part 2 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code.

As became known earlier, on 21 February 2017, a mound of ice fell from the roof of building No 41 in Koltsovskaya Street on a 48-year-old passer-by entailing severe injuries.

The investigators have detained the director of the building management company as a suspect and are now interrogating him. They are going to ask courts to place the man in custody pending trial.

At present, the investigators continue conducting necessary investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to document the evidence. The investigators have searched the building management company and confiscated necessary documents. The injured people have been recognized as injured parties and have been questioned. Forensic medical examinations will be ordered to evaluate the bodily harm once they have finished treatment. Necessary examinations have been conducted, while eyewitnesses, tenants of the house and workers of the building management company are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
