Investigative Committee finishes investigation in several attacks on medical workers committed in 2017 in Yaroslavl Region

In 2017, the Yaroslavl Region Office of the Investigative Committee registered 4 reports of assaults on medical workers on duty. Investigations were launched in each one of the reports and three of them have been finished by now.

One of the finished investigations is the one against a 40-year-old local resident charged with battery under Article 116 of the RF Penal Code. According to investigators, on 13 February 2017, the man beat up a 25-year-old doctor of the Solovyov Hospital in Yaroslavl who was trying to help him.

The office also completed the probe against a 67-year-old woman charged with battery under Article 116 of the RF Penal Code. The investigators established that in February 2017, an ambulance crew arrived to respond to a call from a bus stop in Sportivnaya Street in Yaroslavl and found there the drunk woman lying on the ground. The medics decided to take her to a hospital, but on the way there the woman hit one of the paramedics on the head.

Both of the cases have been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for the indictment to be signed and will then be referred to court. Both of the accused were released on recognizance.

A court is now trying a case against a 23-year-old Komi-born man. He was drunk and had traces of beating on his face when on 17 February 2017 he came into a shop in Gogol Street. Those present in the shop called an ambulance. On the way to a hospital the accused hit a female paramedic at least 11 times on her head and hands.

Another attack on a doctor happened a week ago in the town of Rybinsk. In the afternoon, a 51-year-old drunk man on his way to a hospital in an ambulance van beat two female paramedics aged 22 and 33, who were trying to help him. The Yaroslavl Region Office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in battery under Article 116 of the RF Penal Code. The investigators are now collecting and documenting the evidence. The suspect confessed to the crime during an interrogation and repented. He was served a subpoena.

All those and other assaults on doctors and instances of impeding them in any other way are being closely watched by the Investigative Committee. As was mentioned several times before, the senior officials of the Investigative Committee gave orders to all territorial divisions to respond immediately to all such incidents and give them tough legal assessment.
