In Rostov-on-Don, investigators interrogating suspect of attempted murder by generally dangerous means

The Rostov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has detained a suspect of illegal circulation of explosives and explosive devices under Part 1 of Article 222.1 and an attempted murder by generally dangerous means under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2, item “f” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

As became known earlier, a 46-year-old man found a flashlight at Nakhichevansky Lane and Sotsialisticheskaya Street in the city of Rostov-on-Don on 6 April 2017. When he picked it up, the flashlight exploded in his hands. The injured man was taken to hospital.

To solve the crime, criminalists used advanced forensic equipment, including spy camera detector Optic-2, which located several cameras that captured the suspect.

The suspect was then identified and apprehended as a result of well-planned joint efforts of investigators, police and agents of the Federal Security Service. It is Eduard Sharapov, a 46-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don.

During an interrogation the man explained that he had had a longstanding conflict with the victim over a woman. Knowing the man’s lifestyle, his route to work and back, the suspect intended to kill him using an improvised explosive device. He had waited until the man left his house. Then he planted a bomb disguised as a flashlight on his way and took off.

The investigators revealed that the suspect had intentionally left the flashlight on, so that its light caught man’s attention.

At present, the investigators keep on interrogating the suspect. He is expecting a custodial restraint.

The investigation is ongoing.
