Suspects of St. Petersburg metro bombing arrested

The Investigative Committee’s Major Cases Directorate continues investigating a terrorist attack on the Saint Petersburg metro that took place on 3 April 2017.

Following the investigators’ request, a court has ruled today to place Seifulla Khakimov, Ibragibzhon Yermatov, Dilmurod Muidinov, Bakhram Yergashev, Azamzhon Makhmudov, Makhamadyusuf Mirzaalimov, Shokhista Karimova and Sodik Ortikov in custody pending trial.

All 8 of them were detained yesterday in Moscow and Saint Petersburg during investigative and search operations conducted in cooperation with the Federal Security Service and the Interior Ministry. The investigators searched their homes and seized an explosive device identical to the one discovered at the Ploshchad Vosstaniya station in the St. Petersburg metro, firearms and ammunition.

The investigators are now working to determine the part each of them had in the crime and are going to press charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
