Preinvestigative actions taken in death of old woman in Sverdlovsk Region

Police received a message that a 78-year-old woman, resident of Yekaterinburg, died in an ICU of a hospital on 22 March 2017. The Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has launched preinvestigative operations to look into the incident.

According to preliminary information, a woman from Yekaterinburg visited a grocery store and as she was leaving the building, she was halted by security staff of the shop, as she was suspected in shoplifting. Staff called the security and police. The woman was proposed to wait in the storage room. Arrived policemen delivered the woman to the police station, where she felt sick. The ambulance delivered her to a hospital. She died in a hospital on 22 March.

The investigator of the Investigative Committee currently conducts examination in order to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. Legal assessment will be given to actions of the shop staff, policemen, ambulance workers and hospital staff, where the woman died.

The investigator also will examine if the first aid was rendered properly and timely, as well as he will examine quality of medical service in the hospital. Forensic tests will be carried out to find out exactly what caused death.

Preinvestigative operations will result in a procedural decision, criminal investigation may be launched in order to find out all consequences surrounding the event, if there is well-founded reason for that.
