Magadan Region investigators run check into negligence of guardianship officials who let family adopt child later hospitalized with cachexia

The Magadan Region Office of the Investigative Committee is running a check into reports provided by Anna Kuznetsova, the Children’s Ombudsman, that an 11-year-old boy was delivered to the Moscow Endocrinological Research Center in March 2017 and diagnosed with cachexia.

According to preliminary data, the boy lived in a foster family in the city of Magadan.

Investigators are going to check the actions of the guardianship authorities when they made a decision to let the family adopt the boy, whether they checked the boy’s living conditions in the foster family and are going to look into the conditions he was raised under. Tough legal assessment will be given to those actions.

A procedural decision will be made following the check.
