Ex-judge of Rostov Region commercial court charged with fraud placed in custody

The Rostov Region Office of the Investigative Committee continues criminal proceedings initiated by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee against former judge of the Rostov Region Commercial Court Svetlana Martynova charged with fraud under Part 4 of Article 159 of the RF Criminal Code.

As became known earlier, in 2011, the judge offered two businessmen her help in getting ownership of 13 thousand hectares of agricultural lands located in Kushchevka District, Krasnodar Territory. For her assistance the businessmen were to transfer Martynova 52 million rubles and another 22.5 million rubles they were to pay to the owner of the land a compensation. Martynova’s lawyers arranged that the ownership was transferred to a company controlled by the judge and set up specially for this purpose. The businessman gave the judge over 40 million rubles (in different currencies), but Martynova handed shares of the company to her relatives and friends defrauding the money from businessmen.

Martynova ignored subpoenas for a long time and did not show up for interrogations without reasonable excuses, so she was charged in absentia and put on a wanted list. She was detained in Moscow and transported to the city of Rostov-on-Don.

On 28 June 2017, a court has ruled to place her in custody pending trial. The investigation continues.
