Probes launched in shelling civilians by Ukraine’s soldiers

The Head Office of the Investigative Committee has opened investigations in the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare under Part 1 of Article 356 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 9, 18, 19 and 23 June 2017, Ukrainian military servants followed criminal orders of higher commanders from the Ministry of Defense and fired heavy artillery weapons at civilian infrastructure located in the settlement of Trudovskiye, Petrovsky District of Donetsk, the settlement Kominternovo, the town of Yasinovataya, the town of Dokuchayevsk, Donetsk Region. 2 civilians were killed, while two more people were wounded.

The ones who committed those major crimes violated the Minsk Protocol, the Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Geneva, 1949) and its follow-up protocol II. It is obvious that their aim was to kill as many civilians as possible for the reasons of political and ideological hatred as the population of the southeastern Ukraine refuse to recognize the current authority as legitimate and want to create isolated administrative-territorial entities.

The investigators are now working to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and role of each one involved in it independent of their military ranks or positions.
