Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee holds working meeting with Finland’s national police commissar

The delegation of Finland’s Police headed by National Police Commissar Seppo Kolehmainen have visited today the Investigative Committee’s Saint Petersburg Directorate to hold bilateral meetings provided for by the Cooperation Agreement signed between the RF Investigative Committee and the Finland’s Interior Ministry in September 2011.

During the visit, Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, Finland’s National Police Commissar Seppo Kolehmainen and Director of Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Robin Lardot.

The officials discussed pressing issues and prospects of bilateral interaction in countering crimes, cooperation in certain criminal cases, including as part of mutual legal assistance, and holding joint experience exchange events.

On the eve of the meeting, the Finnish Police’s delegation had visited the Molecular and DNA Laboratory of the Investigative Committee’s Saint Petersburg Directorate and had gotten familiar with forensic equipment used by investigative offices and shared experience in forensics with the staff and administration of the Saint Petersburg Directorate and the Forensics Directorate.

Representatives of the parties discussed practical aspect of forensics and outlooks of cooperation between their experts. Investigative Committee’s experts expressed their readiness to share experience with their Finnish colleagues because the Investigative Committee has unique groundwork in forensic examinations during preliminary investigations in different kinds of crimes, including those involving minors.

During the Saint Petersburg meetings which logically continued a visit Investigative Committee’s delegation headed by the Chairman made to Finland in February, the parties reached agreement on further cooperation and its development.
