Probe launched in assault on law enforcers in Yessentuki

The North Caucasian Federal District Directorate of the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation against two men aged 49 and 42, suspected of attempt on life of a law enforcer and illegal circulation of firearms under Article 317 and Part 1 of Article 222 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, two police officers on duty stopped the 49-year-old man and his companion at 7 PM on 25 October 2017 on the corner of Buachidze and Nagornaya Streets in the town of Yessentuki. The two men looked suspicious and the officers asked them to show their documents. One of the men opened fire from a pistol. The officers killed the shooter, but the other men ran away.

The police officers were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

The runaway man was identified in the shortest possible time. The 42-year-old local man was detained with a gun on him. He is now expecting custodial restraint.

The investigators confiscated from the crime scene a stranglehold, gloves, masks, two knives and a pistol with ammunition which belonged to the attackers.

Necessary expert examinations were ordered. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime. The inquest continues.
