Investigative Committee Chairman orders Central Office to supervise probe into torture of minor in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area

While in the town of Surgut, Alexander Bastrykin has heard a report on another high-profile investigation opened into injuring of a 12-year-old girl.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee was reported that the regional investigative authority took over the case opened by the police into malicious injuring under Article 112 of the RF Criminal Code. In addition, local investigators launched another investigation in torturing of a minor under Part 2, item “d” of Article 117 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to a medical examination of the girl, she has been suffering beatings for a long time.

According to preliminary data, she lived with her relatives who have three more children, who are now being examined in a hospital. The girl’s parents live in Tajikistan.

The Chairman has ordered the investigators to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident as quickly as possible, look into the girl’s living conditions in Surgut, the way she got into Russia and identify those guilty of the crime.

The investigators are also going to check if the family was registered with control, social or prevention services. If they find any malpractice on the part of officials of the said services, they will give their actions (omission) legal assessment.

The investigators are going to request legal assistance from competent bodies in Tajikistan with which Russia has constructive cooperation.

The probe is under control at the Investigative Committee’s Central Office.
