Probe launched in Tomsk Region against man suspected of killing wife and three children

The Tomsk Region office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against a 37-year-old resident of the settlement of Markelovo, Shegasky District, suspected of murder of two or more people, including minors, committed by a generally dangerous way under Part 2, items “a”, “c” and “f” of Article 105 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, on the evening of 26 November 2017, during a quarrel with his wife the man threw some inflammable liquid on her. A fire then started which killed the 28-year-old woman and her three daughters aged 12 months, 5 and 6 years. The suspect and another woman were taken to the Shegarsky District Hospital with burns. They are now in grave condition.

Investigators headed by deputy head of the Tomsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee have left for the scene. An investigative team has been set up which is now working at the crime scene. They are examining the scene, have questioned the suspect and the injured woman, ordered forensic medical and fire examinations. They are also questioning witnesses and carrying out other investigative operations. The investigation continues.
